A unique ski area: the Espace San Bernardo between France and Italy
A true jewel of the Alps, the Espace San Bernardo links the French resort of
La Rosière with its Italian neighbour
La Thuile, offering a cross-border skiing experience that is unique in Europe. With 154 km of slopes spread between 1,200 and 2,800 metres in altitude, this ski area appeals as much for the diversity of its landscapes as for the richness of its sensations.
In just a few minutes, skiers can move from one side of the border to the other with no formalities, enjoying a single ski pass and an enchanting blend of Savoyard charm and Italian
dolce vita. Snow cover is guaranteed from mid-December to the end of April, thanks to a favourable microclimate and high altitude.
On the French side, the slopes of La Rosière are renowned for their gentle gradients and sunny exposure, making them ideal for
families and beginners, with wide, perfectly groomed blue runs. Learning areas and fun zones, particularly near the Eucherts district, allow younger skiers to progress in complete safety. Freestyle enthusiasts will also find dedicated snowparks and freeride areas.
Crossing the border, the Italian slopes of La Thuile reveal a very different character: more technical descents, impressive vertical drops and breathtaking views over Mont Blanc and the
glaciers of the Aosta Valley. Experienced skiers will appreciate run no. 3 Franco Berthod, one of the steepest in Italy with a 76% gradient, while run no. 7 San Bernardo, stretching over 11 km, offers an unforgettable panoramic descent between the two countries.
Thanks to its modern lift system, access to the slopes remains smooth even during peak season, allowing everyone to make the most of the area. What truly sets the Espace San Bernardo apart is its cosmopolitan atmosphere: enjoy lunch on an Italian terrace overlooking the peaks, then head back to France to ski into the sunset.
