8 unusual activities to try out in the mountains this summer!

Just what you need for a dynamic summer holiday!

We admire the mountains for their impressive scenery, we love to hike them, each one more sublime than the last, and we enjoy the peace and fresh air they provide. But mountain resorts also offer a multitude of activities, some of them unusual. To discover the French Alps and its jewels in a different way, here is a list of 8 unusual activities that we recommend:

1 - Dog-hiking

Dogs are man's best friend, even in the mountains! Towed by a single dog in a harness, you'll be carried along by the power of these mountain animals, used to plying the Alpine trails. Their great strength is their adaptability. They can run at a moderate pace, for the young and less sporty, but they can also keep up a steady pace for keen hikers and trail runners.

2 - Bubble Water

For a bit of coolness in the middle of summer and a lot of fun, bubble water is ideal! Inside a plastic 'bubble', you can run, jump, roll and hit your 'targets'. It is a great way for young and old alike to have a laugh and get some exercise! Many mountain lakes and water parks offer this activity.

3 - Survival course

If you feel like a modern-day Robinson Crusoe, then these survival courses should appeal to you. The group of apprentice adventurers sets off to live independently for several days (generally between 2 days and 1 week) in the mountains. The programme includes training in essential survival techniques, orienteering, setting up a base camp and learning about the surrounding flora and fauna. All in a splendid, unspoilt natural setting. There are courses for all levels, beginners and advanced.

4 - Fantasticable

A variation on the zip line, the "fantasticable" has developed mainly in the mountains. Stretched out in a reclining position, and with a high speed that can easily exceed 100 km/h, the descents will give you intense sensations. As the course is generally quite long, you'll still be able to admire the surrounding mountains and valleys. Duo flights are available to share this unique experience.

5 - Sylvotherapie

Sylvotherapy can be summed up as 'therapy through trees'. Through walks and breathing exercises in the forest, you'll learn to anchor yourself to the earth and nourish yourself with the energy of the trees. A philosophy with its roots in Japan, sylvothéraphie is a serene, offbeat way of becoming aware of and reconnecting with nature.

6 - Mountain cart

Small 3-wheeled karts close to the ground for a series of adrenalin-fuelled descents! Many resorts in the Alps now offer this activity for adults and children alike! Turn up the turbo and feel like Mario and Luigi on the rainbow road.

7 - Paddle Yoga

The French Alps boast some splendid natural lakes where you can hire or bring your own paddle. For a relaxing session in the heart of nature, why not try paddle yoga? Perform yoga postures on your board and breathe deeply to feel the invigorating air of nature. Introductory courses are available in the lakes' aquatic areas.

8 - Stroller walk

Are you a young parent and already feel like exploring our beautiful mountains again this summer? It is possible with the pushchair hiking concept, which is attracting an ever-growing number of enthusiasts. Many hiking trails have now been adapted so that parents can take their toddlers for a walk in a pushchair while admiring the surrounding peaks. Some winding trails may require the use of an 'all-terrain' pushchair, which can usually be hired from sports shops in the resorts.
