Villages listed and preserved

Samoëns has managed to keep the charm and character of a traditional mountain village and preserved an all-year-round local life and activity. Many ancient buildings remain in the village like the XVIth century collegiate church, the presbytery and the old market place.

In Sainte-Foy-Tarentaise, discover the small listed village of Monal through a forest path. This hamlet is composed of genuine chalets from the XVIIIth and XIXth centuries built around the Saint-Clair chapel.

In Haute-Maurienne, the hamlet of L’Ecot located 2000 meters high is “one of the most beautiful villages in France” and represents the dreamy scenery of a high mountain village. Perfectly preserved, it was used as a filming spot for the movie Belle et Sébastien in 2013. You can access it easily from our residence in Val Cenis.

Cultural and architectural heritage

Enjoy local village fairs all summer long. It will be the opportunity to discover or rediscover the mountain traditions, songs, costumes… Many unforgettable moments to share with your family in a friendly and playful atmosphere.

The French Alps are also swarming with castles and fortresses. Mandatory passages in the middle-ages, many constructions were established in the valleys to defend these territories. Wandering in the alpine valleys you will not miss these impressive strongholds like the fort of Esseillon in Haute-Maurienne.

Religion was very common in the mountains and many churches and remarkable religious buildings can still be found in every village.The Baroque art is strongly represented as can be seen in the Hauteluce church or the Vernettes chapel in Peisey-Vallandry.
