Skiing with a baby

 

Here are a few tips and precautions to bear in mind:

 

You need to be aware of the altitude when taking your baby to the mountains. Under the age of one, it is not advisable to take a baby above 1500 metres. Between the ages of 1 year and 18 months, the altitude should not exceed 1,700 metres. 

 

Village resorts are therefore ideal for babies on their first trip to the mountains. 

Also remember to climb the mountain in stages, taking breaks or offering your toddler a dummy, bottle or breast. This helps to avoid the discomfort of altitude.

A number of village resorts have the Famille Plus label and offer a wide range of activities for children and babies. Fun things to do with baby include sledging, dog sledding, hiking or snowshoeing. We recommend using a baby carrier on the front to keep your baby warmer. Some resorts also hire out pushchairs and skis for cross-country skiing. Remember to take a blanket and a small hot water bottle to keep your baby warm during your efforts.

 

If your baby is starting to walk, you can introduce him or her to the pleasure of skiing with a baby ski.

 

 

The fresh mountain air is good for babies, but remember to cover them from head to toe. A full wetsuit, gloves, hat, mittens, tights and snow boots are recommended for your baby. Protect your children's eyes with good sunglasses and their skin with a suitable sun cream.
