The 10 must-see sites in Savoie

1-Lake Bourget and Hautecombe Abbey

Lac du Bourget is the longest natural lake in France. It is possible to cycle around it, or to admire it from the surrounding peaks such as the Dent du Chat, the Bauges or the Mont Revard. It is possible to practice different sports such as water skiing, wakeboarding, windsurfing, fishing (with a permit), diving or swimming. The most famous fish that swims in the waters of Lac du Bourget is the Arctic char. Located 1h20 from our residences Le Hameau du Beaufortain in Les Saisies and Le Village de Lessy in Grand-Bornand. During your trip to the lake, take the opportunity to visit the Hautecombe Abbey, which is over 900 years old. It became a princely necropolis in the 12th century and is the resting place of, among others, the last king of Italy.

2-Lake Roseland and Lake Saint Guérin

The Roseland lake is nice because you can easily cycle or walk around it. Whether in winter or summer, the numerous viewpoints all around are incredible! The Rocher du Vent, the Aiguille du Grand Fond and the Pierra Menta overlook the lake. It is also possible to navigate on this superb turquoise water expanse by kayak and stand up paddle.
Just a few kilometres away, discover the Saint Guérin lake and its 83-metre long Himalayan footbridge. The lake is ideal for a relaxing break in the Beaufortain massif. The latter is located less than 30 km from the residence Le Hameau du Beaufortain, and less than 50 km from the White Pearl Lodge & Spa and Les Granges du Soleil.

3-The Esseillon forts

Built in the 19th century, the Esseillon forts in the Maurienne are classified as Historic Monuments. The duration of their visit is 2h30 on average and 3 routes are available: a place steeped in history to discover with family or friends. These forts are no less than 3 kilometres long and 250 metres high. Located 40 kilometres from Tignes via the Iseran pass in summer, come and visit them during your stay in one of our residences.

4-The Vanoise National Park

The Vanoise National Park is located in Savoie, covers 532 km² and has 400 km of marked trails. It is home to numerous animal species such as ibex, chamois, marmots and golden eagles. It has no less than 107 peaks above 3000 metres. Among the best known of these are the Aiguille de Péclet, Mont Pourri, the Grande Casse and the Dent Parrachée. Many glaciers are also present in the Vanoise Park. As the park is very large, you can access it from many of our residences: it is located 8 kilometres from the Alpages de Champagny in Champagny-en-Vanoise, 25 kilometres from the Ruitor in Sainte Foy Tarentaise and the Granges du Soleil in Les Menuires, 32 kilometres from the Kalinda in Tignes, and 40 kilometres from the Jhana and the Ferme du Val Claret in Tignes, both of which are in Tignes as well.

5-The Beaufortain massif

This wild and preserved massif, in which are located Arêches Beaufort and Les Saisies (where you can find our residence Le Hameau du Beaufortain), is known for its cheese: the Beaufort. Beautiful hikes can be practised there all year long because it is considered as medium mountain. Indeed, its highest peak is at 2995 meters of altitude. It is the ideal place for a quiet and authentic holiday.

6-Lake Aiguebellette

Lake Aiguebellette, located not far from Chambéry, is a nature reserve. It has a surface area of 800 hectares. Its emerald colour is breathtaking and it is one of the hottest lakes in France, with a temperature of up to 28 degrees. Many walks and hikes, but also cultural visits are possible around the lake. The lake is also famous for rowing. Located 100 km from the Hameau du Beaufortain in Les Saisies, 120 km from the Cristal de l'Alpe in Alpe d'Huez and the White Pearl Lodge & Spa in La Plagne, this quiet and peaceful lake is well worth a visit!

7-The Galibier pass

The 4th highest French pass accessible by road (2462 metres above sea level), separates the Savoie from the Hautes Alpes. It is therefore only accessible in summer, as in winter the road is covered in snow. It is very popular with road bike and motorbike enthusiasts for whom it represents a challenge: the climb has a 6.8% gradient over 18.1 km. It is generally the highest passage in the Tour de France. The Galibier pass is 64 km from our residence l'Alpaga, in La Toussuire.

8-Le Cirque de Saint Même

The cirque of Saint Même offers a superb panorama with waterfalls and amphitheatre-shaped cliffs! You can go on magnificent hikes and picnics with majestic views of the Chartreuse massif and its surroundings. Located less than 110 km from the residence Le Cristal de L'Alpe in Alpe d'Huez, come and discover this magical place.

9-Chambéry

Chambéry is a Savoyard city called "the city of dukes". Stroll through the streets and discover its old town, see the famous elephant fountain, the Saint François de Sales cathedral or the castle of the Dukes of Savoy. You will also find many museums.

10-Aix les bains and La Chambotte

After your visit to Chambéry or the Hautecombe Abbey on the banks of Lake Bourget, make a diversion to Aix les Bains: a pretty little spa town on the banks of Lake Bourget. There are many Roman remains and monuments on the shores of the lake. Climb up to the belvedere de la Chambotte for a picnic, one of the most beautiful viewpoints on the lake.
