Vonnes Lake in Châtel – Bord Loop

Starting from the center of Châtel, near our residence Les Chalets d’Angèle, embark on a hike along the Bord Loop, an approximately 3.5-hour itinerary that takes you to Vonnes Lake before gaining elevation through forests and alpine pastures.
This well-marked loop alternates between shaded sections and open areas offering stunning views of the Abondance Valley and surrounding mountains. The trail begins with a gentle incline, gradually ascending with a few steeper sections, but always accessible to regular hikers. Along the way, natural viewpoints invite you to pause, admire the scenery, or enjoy a peaceful picnic.
A perfect hike to discover the diverse landscapes of Châtel, from lake to forest to meadows, all while staying close to the village.

Hike to Lessy Lake from Le Chinaillon

Starting from the residence Le Village de Lessy, located in Le Chinaillon (Le Grand-Bornand), set out on a must-do regional hike: the ascent to Lessy Lake. Nestled at over 1,700 meters above sea level, this glacial lake offers a wild and peaceful setting, surrounded by grassy slopes, rocks, and the Aravis mountain range.
The route, approximately 4 to 5 hours round-trip depending on pace, is intended for experienced hikers due to its length and elevation gain (around 700 meters). The trail first crosses alpine pastures dotted with traditional chalets before reaching more rugged, rocky areas that offer stunning panoramas of the valley and surrounding peaks. At the lake, your effort is rewarded with serene waters and perfect picnic spots along the shore. This hike is a full immersion in the mountains, within a preserved natural environment ideal for disconnecting and observing local wildlife, such as marmots and birds of prey.

cirque du fer à cheval
Cirque du fer-à-cheval

Hike to the Cirque du Fer-à-Cheval

Located about ten kilometers from Samoëns and easily accessible from our boutique residence Les Chalets de Laÿssia or La Reine des Prés, the Cirque du Fer-à-Cheval is a natural gem of the Alps and a must-see for hiking enthusiasts and lovers of wide-open spaces. Classified as a protected natural site, it is the largest alpine mountain cirque, featuring vertiginous cliffs rising over 700 meters high and surrounding peaks reaching nearly 3,000 meters in altitude, forming a spectacular rocky amphitheater.
The hiking route through the heart of the cirque can be adapted to suit your preferences: from a simple walk along well-maintained paths to a longer loop leading to the end of the valley (the “Boucle du Bout du Monde”). Along the way, you will be surrounded by spectacular waterfalls and breathtaking scenery combining forests, alpine meadows, and sheer rock faces.
Accessible to families with children as well as experienced hikers, this outing is ideal for a full day of escape amid around thirty waterfalls in a majestic natural setting. Rest areas and picnic spots line the trail, allowing you to fully enjoy the peace and beauty of this remarkable site.

Hiking in Savoie

L’Aiguille Percée from Tignes le Lac

Starting from our residence Le Télémark, located in Tignes le Lac, set off to discover the Aiguille Percée, an iconic rock formation of the resort. This natural arch carved into the rock at an altitude of 2,778 meters is a must-see hiking objective, both for its spectacular appearance and for the striking panoramas it offers over the surrounding mountain ranges.
The most popular route starts from the bottom of the Palafour chairlift and follows well-marked trails. The hike can be adapted to suit different fitness levels and experience: seasoned hikers can complete the full loop via the ridges of the Col du Palet, while families or occasional walkers may choose a more direct ascent with a return along the same path. Whether you are seeking a sporting challenge or a contemplative outing, the hike to the Aiguille Percée promises a memorable experience in the heart of the Vanoise National Park.

Around Valmorel – Hike to the Col de la Madeleine

Within the resort of Valmorel, close to our residence La Grange aux Fées, set off to conquer the Col de la Madeleine, famous for its stages in the Tour de France and its magnificent high-altitude landscapes. Several marked routes, starting from Celliers, La Thuile, or the hamlet of Pierre Larron, lead to this pass perched at 1,993 meters, following alpine pastures, green combes, and wide-open views.
The ascent is steady but sustained, ideal for hikers in good physical condition looking for a fully immersive nature experience. Along the way, the views gradually open up over the Lauzière range and the snow-capped peaks of the Vanoise, creating a spectacular setting. At the top of the pass, an orientation table allows you to identify the surrounding major mountain ranges and enjoy a well-deserved break facing a breathtaking panorama. This hike can be done as an out-and-back route or incorporated into a longer loop for experienced walkers, and will delight lovers of wide open spaces and alpine tranquillity.

La Rosière: routes between France and Italy

Starting from one of our residences in La Rosière, set out on an unforgettable high-altitude hike toward Lac Sans Fond, nestled on the border between France and Italy. This emblematic route begins at the Col du Petit Saint-Bernard, easily accessible from the resort, and leads you through flower-filled meadows, open ridgelines, and historic remains at over 2,400 meters in altitude.
The well-marked trail offers spectacular views throughout the ascent over the Tarentaise Valley, Mont Blanc, and the Italian peaks. After around two hours of walking, you reach Lac Sans Fond, a small natural gem with crystal-clear waters, set in a very mineral landscape. The atmosphere is peaceful and wild, perfect for a contemplative break or a picnic facing a grandiose panorama.

In brief…

Whether along marked trails in Châtel, Samoëns, Valmorel, or La Rosière, these six hikes embody the diversity and richness of the French Alps. High-altitude lakes, legendary passes, spectacular waterfalls, and geological curiosities: each route opens the doors to a preserved territory to be explored at your own pace. Starting from CGH residences, head out this summer to discover an authentic natural environment and enjoy unforgettable moments in the great outdoors.
