Around Valmorel – Hike to the Col de la Madeleine
Within the resort of
Valmorel, close to our residence
La Grange aux Fées, set off to conquer the
Col de la Madeleine, famous for its stages in the Tour de France and its magnificent high-altitude landscapes. Several marked routes, starting from Celliers,
La Thuile, or the hamlet of Pierre Larron, lead to this pass perched at 1,993 meters, following alpine pastures, green combes, and wide-open views.
The ascent is steady but sustained, ideal for hikers in good physical condition looking for a fully immersive nature experience. Along the way, the views gradually open up over the Lauzière range and the snow-capped peaks of the Vanoise, creating a spectacular setting. At the top of the pass, an orientation table allows you to identify the surrounding major mountain ranges and enjoy a well-deserved break facing a breathtaking panorama. This hike can be done as an out-and-back route or incorporated into a longer loop for experienced walkers, and will delight lovers of wide open spaces and alpine tranquillity.
La Rosière: routes between France and Italy
Starting from one of our residences in
La Rosière, set out on an unforgettable high-altitude hike toward
Lac Sans Fond, nestled on the border between France and Italy. This emblematic route begins at the
Col du Petit Saint-Bernard, easily accessible from the resort, and leads you through flower-filled meadows, open ridgelines, and historic remains at over 2,400 meters in altitude.
The well-marked trail offers spectacular views throughout the ascent over the Tarentaise Valley, Mont Blanc, and the Italian peaks. After around two hours of walking, you reach Lac Sans Fond, a small natural gem with crystal-clear waters, set in a very mineral landscape. The atmosphere is peaceful and wild, perfect for a contemplative break or a picnic facing a grandiose panorama.
